Welcome to the Blog, Part Two

Well we have finally started what we said we were going to do for about 7 hours now. We have our own baseball blog. For a little bit about myself, I offer this tidbit:
I was born on July 20, 1989 at 9:55 PM. At 9:55 PM, the Cubs were playing the Giants and trailing 3-0 late in the game at Wrigley Field. At about 10:30 PM, Dwight Smith and Curtis Wilkerson hit back to back singles, driving in 3 runs and tying the game up 3-3, sending it into extra innings. At 11:14 PM, pitcher Les Lancaster hit an eleventh inning, two out double to score Curtis Wilkerson and win the game for the Cubs. They would go on to win 21 of their next 28, pulling them in from 3.5 games behind the Expos to giving them a 4.5 game lead in the division, which they would go on to win that year.
I think that just about explains itself.
My contribution to this adventure will be mainly centered around numbers. For all my life I have been fascinated by the rarities in baseball, such as records and random occurrences. For instance, in what I have to imagine is the only time this happened, Tony Perez got exactly 2 hits in 11 consecutive games in 1973. In reading my posts, you will find out why if Ted Lilly is ever going to throw a no-hitter, it is most likely to happen in his next start; why there is absolutely no such thing as clutch hitting; and why everything that has happened in the history of baseball was pretty much expected to happen due to random chance except for Joe DiMaggio’s legendary 56 game hit streak.
I hope you enjoy the blog, and if you have any questions, comments, complaints, or praise, feel free to e-mail me at tnielsen@purdue.edu, or leave a comment.
This Is The Year.
